Marketing & Communications Director

Position Overview:

Are you a creative visionary with a passion for storytelling, content creation, and community impact? As The Yunion’s Director of Marketing & Communications, you will be at the forefront of expanding our brand, building strategic partnerships, and driving engagement through innovative marketing initiatives.

 

You’ll lead and inspire a dynamic team, including contractual support staff reporting directly to you, to execute impactful campaigns that elevate The Yunion’s mission. This is your chance to lead marketing efforts that leave a lasting mark on Metro Detroit and beyond.

 

Essential Functions:

Brand Expansion and Marketing Strategy

  • Lead efforts to elevate The Yunion’s brand, driving local and national visibility.
  • Cultivate relationships with media, influencers, funders, and community organizations to amplify our mission.
  • Develop innovative sponsorships and partnerships that align with organizational goals.

 

Digital and Content Strategy

  • Create compelling digital campaigns to share success stories, program highlights, and funding opportunities.
  • Oversee website updates, ensuring an engaging user experience.
  • Manage content for email marketing, newsletters, and social media, focusing on storytelling and community connection.

 

Community Outreach Alignment

  • Partner with the Community Outreach Coordinator to promote events and integrate community feedback.
  • Design marketing strategies to maximize event attendance and impact.

 

Event and Public Relations Support

  • Lead marketing and promotion for events, from fundraisers to youth programs.
  • Serve as the main contact for media inquiries, press releases, and public relations efforts.
  • Represent The Yunion at community and industry events as a brand ambassador.

 

Donor Relations and Funding Outreach

  • Develop and execute strategic outreach initiatives to build long-term donor relationships, including donor appreciation events, recognition programs, and personalized communication.
  • Design and implement fundraising and donor communication campaigns that highlight the impact of donor contributions, promoting Giving Tuesday, year-end appeals, and other opportunities for support.
  • Collaborate with program directors to prepare reports and other assets that showcase program results and the impact of donor contributions.

 

Creative Leadership

  • Oversee the design and production of marketing materials that reflect The Yunion’s cultural relevance and community values.
  • Inspire and guide contractual staff to achieve excellence in content creation and design.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a similar role, ideally within the nonprofit or community-focused sector.
  • Demonstrated success in building brand awareness and managing multichannel marketing campaigns (digital, social, print).
  • Experience developing content for email marketing, newsletters, and social media.
  • Collaboration experience with teams or external partners, including media and community organizations.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, content strategy, and digital advertising.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to produce clear, engaging, and consistent messaging.
  • Proven ability to analyze marketing metrics and adjust strategies to improve reach and engagement.

 

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

Physical Demands

This is a primarily sedentary role; however, there will be lifting of files, opening of filing cabinets and frequent bending or standing.

 

Expected Hours of Work

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one hour unpaid lunch hour. Schedules may vary based on company needs and some late evenings and weekend hours are required.

 

Travel

Local, regional, and occasional national travel is required for this position.

Chief Operating Officer

 

Pay Range

$70,000-$90,000
